SUE ELLEN JACOBS
Handweaver of Tribal Wraps
My Tribal Wraps are handwoven shawls and scarves that have been influenced by the indigenous textiles I have collected from Latin America, Turkey, India and Pakistan, as well as from my travels in Mexico and Peru. The pattern-work on my pieces speaks to the geometric forms that can be seen on many pre-Columbian ruins, such as the architectural friezes of Mitla, the irrigated terraces of Macchu Pichu or the pyramidal construction at Monte Alban.
After having spent several years weaving in Mexico, I can say without a doubt that Mexico taught me more about color than I could have ever imagined, and this experience is reflected in my work.
I currently live in the Zuni Mountains of northwestern New Mexico with my husband, and assorted dog and cat companions.
